Common Questions

Explore our frequently asked questions about apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships are one of the most powerful ways to launch a career, offering the rare chance to earn a salary while gaining industry experience and a nationally recognised qualification at the same time.

Instead of waiting to apply knowledge in the future, you are immersed in real projects from day one, building practical skills that employers urgently need. You will be trained on cutting-edge equipment and techniques that even universities often cannot provide, giving you a genuine advantage in a fast-moving sector.

The blend of workplace learning and formal study means you not only gain technical expertise but also develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and problem-solving abilities that will stay with you throughout your career.

For many, an apprenticeship is more than just training—it is the first step into a profession where opportunities grow with every new skill you master, making it an outstanding route into science, healthcare science and beyond.

Typically, our apprenticeships last between 1 to 3 years, depending on the programme and your individual progress. We aim to support you every step of the way.

What matters most is your enthusiasm for learning as almost anyone who is interested in building a career in science or healthcare science can apply. If you are unsure use the ‘Get in Touch’ form at the bottom of this page for more information.

Support is what we do, from the moment you are orientated and enrolled onto your chosen apprenticeship and all along your journey we are here to help support and guide you. You will benefit from both our Wellbeing and Safeguarding Teams, regular tutor catch-ups and formal review meetings. We’re committed to ensuring you have everything needed for a successful apprenticeship.

Yes, apprenticeships are specifically designed to be accessible, even if you have no prior experience in the field. Employers and training providers understand that apprentices are often starting their journey, so the programmes provide the right balance of support, training, and hands-on practice to help you build skills from the ground up.

Not at all, apprenticeships are open to people of all ages. While many school leavers choose them as a first step into a career, they are equally valuable for adults who want to retrain, return to work, or develop their skills further in their current role. Employers’ welcome applicants of different ages and backgrounds, as this brings a wide range of perspectives and experiences into the workplace.

In fact, at CSR Scientific Training we find that apprenticeships are increasingly used by people already in employment who want to upskill and progress into more advanced positions. Whether you are just leaving school, changing direction mid-career, or looking to build on existing experience, an apprenticeship can provide a recognised qualification, practical training, and a clear pathway to new opportunities.
