Skills Bootcamps Delivery Overview

Health and Life Sciences

CSR Scientific Training Health and Life Science Skills Bootcamps are designed to strengthen employability within the UK’s growing science and healthcare sectors. The bootcamps focus on building core industry skills such as laboratory practice, data handling, scientific communication, and problem-solving, alongside transferable skills like teamwork, digital literacy, and professional resilience. Supported by local enterprise funding, the programme blends practical and online learning to ensure participants gain both technical competence and workplace readiness, enhancing their progression opportunities into employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

Curriculum Focus

The curriculum is comprehensive, covering data analysis, laboratory techniques, regulatory standards, and laboratory safety. The inputs are part mapped to some of the KSBs from the L3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Programme making it an ideal entry programme into a L3 technical apprenticeship.

Key components include:

Wet Laboratory Skills: Training in the fundamental aspects of laboratory work including solution preparation, sample handling, and the use of basic measurement equipment.

Safe Working Practices: Emphasis on health and safety protocols to ensure safety in handling chemicals, biological materials, and laboratory equipment.

Biological Techniques: Instruction in microbiology, blood typing, and presumptive testing techniques.

Chromatographic Techniques: Introduction to methods such as TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) and Colorimetry, critical for the analysis of biological substances.

Administrative/Data Handling Skills: Training in record keeping, data analysis, and the use of software for scientific data management.

Employer Introductions

On completion of the programme every learner will be given awareness of local Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) employers along with being signposted to vacancies for entry level scientific support positions with support to apply.

Participants will complete the programme with a solid foundation in scientific practices, equipped with skills recognised across the industry, boosting their employment prospects. The delivery method will be a blend of online theoretical learning and on-site practical sessions. This enriched curriculum ensures that participants gain a balanced skill set that is highly valued in the scientific community and essential for career advancement in various scientific fields.

Who Should Apply?

Eligibility: Applicants over 19 who are currently unemployed or looking to pivot career.

Education: While you can have already completed a course in a science topic, this is not a requirement, and we welcome beginners to science too. Please note if you are currently receiving funding/or about to begin receiving funding on a University Degree course you will not be eligible for a place on the Skills Bootcamps.

Passion: A keen interest in science and a desire to pursue a career in this field.
