CSR Introducing: Elisa Moores

At CSR Scientific Training, our success is built on the knowledge, passion, and dedication of our people. In this edition of Meet the Team, we’re introducing Elisa, our Director of Operations, who brings over a decade of experience in healthcare and training to her leadership role. Elisa plays a vital part in ensuring CSR continues to deliver exceptional apprenticeship programmes that change lives and strengthen the UK’s science and healthcare sectors.

What’s your role at CSR Scientific Training?

Director of Operations

What does your day-to-day work involve?

As Director of Operations, I oversee the activities of the delivery team and manage department heads to ensure all operational functions align with the organisation’s strategic objectives and quality standards. In addition, I actively engage with employers across the healthcare sector, fostering strong partnerships and driving business growth by identifying and developing new opportunities within the healthcare industry.

What brought you into this line of work?

In my previous role as Microbiology Laboratory Manager and Pathology Training Manager, I was responsible for overseeing departmental operations and supporting apprentices within the laboratory. After 13 years working in the NHS, I decided to pursue a new career path that offered a better work–life balance while still allowing me to apply my experience in healthcare and training.

Why did you choose to work in apprenticeships?

Whilst supporting apprentices during my time in the NHS I saw first hand the value that apprenticeship programmes bring to both individuals and organisations. I chose to work in apprenticeships because I’m passionate about developing people and helping them gain the skills and confidence to succeed in their careers. Moving into this field also allowed me to maintain a strong connection to healthcare and education.

What’s one achievement you’re most proud of in your career so far?

An achievement I am particularly proud of is the result of our most recent Ofsted inspection in which we were awarded their highest rating of ‘Outstanding’.

If you weren’t working in science/apprenticeships, what would you be doing?

If I wasn’t working in apprenticeships, I could see myself training to become a vet.

What does the Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating mean to you personally?

To me, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating represents the highest standard of education and leadership. Personally, it means being part of an environment where excellence is not just an expectation but a shared commitment. It reflects a culture where every learner is valued, supported, and challenged to achieve their full potential. It also highlights a culture where staff are continually learning and improving too.

How do you see CSR shaping the future of science and skills training?

Our recent move to a new state-of-the-art laboratory at Millennium Point marks an exciting new chapter. The relocation will strengthen CSR’s capacity to innovate, inspire, and lead the way in shaping the future of science and skills training.

What message would you give to someone thinking about starting an apprenticeship with us?

Go for it. Apprenticeships offer you a great opportunity to earn while you learn both theoretical and practical elements of a role. At CSR we ensure you are provided with an outstanding level of training and have plenty of additional enrichment programmes and support networks so that you get the most out of your apprenticeship.

Favourite quote or piece of advice you live by?

Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude.

One thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

While completing my Masters I achieved Young Scientist of the Year and was selected to present my research project at the Gothenburg Federation of European Microbiological Societies conference.

Elisa’s leadership and experience play a key role in ensuring CSR’s programmes remain at the forefront of science and healthcare apprenticeship training. Her passion for people, quality, and innovation continues to shape how CSR delivers its mission bringing education and industry together for a brighter, safer world.
